Why Only Few Companies Actually Use AI-Based Inspection Systems

Peter Droege
Dozens of studies have already examined the adoption rate of artificial intelligence (AI) in companies. The vast majority come to the same conclusion: companies have recognized the great potential for optimization, but still rarely use AI systems in regular operations.
This discrepancy is also reflected in our survey results. While 70% of the participants consider AI-based inspection systems to be ready for series production, only 17% actually use them. This is particularly remarkable, as at the same time almost 80% of the surveyed companies still rely on manual quality inspections. AI-based inspection systems are still in the early stages of market penetration, and it is ultimately the customers who decide which solutions will prevail. This survey provides food for thought as to which customer requirements play a particularly important role.
